Biography
Astoria Design Studio was born from a lifelong passion for design, image-making, and the way culture shapes the spaces we live in. Based in Melbourne, the studio is dedicated to creating interiors and curating objects that embody a refined, timeless aesthetic while remaining deeply personal to each client.
My journey into design began at fourteen, when my grandfather gave me a camera to take on a school trip to America. It was on that trip that I purchased my first copy of Vogue, a September issue, so oversized it felt like more than a magazine. It was a cultural artefact, an introduction to a world where fashion, photography, and design collided in the most compelling ways. That moment sparked an enduring fascination with the relationship between aesthetics and storytelling, and it set me on a creative path that continues to shape Astoria Design Studio today.
In the early 2010s, I studied photography at Billy Blue College of Design (formerly CATC). This period was formative, providing me with the technical foundation of image-making and the discipline of visual storytelling. Just as importantly, it introduced me to a network of mentors, peers, and cultural influences who broadened my perspective on design. What began as an exploration of photography soon evolved into a wider appreciation for the built environment and the objects that define it. I found myself increasingly drawn to the way interiors could express identity, foster connection, and create mood.
Astoria Design Studio is the culmination of these experiences. It is a practice grounded in the principles of mid-century, coastal, and Scandinavian design, each chosen for their shared emphasis on simplicity, texture, and authenticity. These influences inform both the studio’s interiors and its curated collections, whether sourcing vintage objects, designing bespoke pieces, or producing fine art prints. The aim is not to follow trends but to cultivate a design language that feels enduring, understated, and intentional.
Philosophy
The studio operates with a philosophy of curation as much as creation. A considered home is not built solely on new furniture or decoration but through the thoughtful layering of objects, textures, and stories. Whether styling a room, advising on art and object selections, or developing custom pieces, the focus is on creating spaces that feel both elevated and lived in. This balance of refinement and authenticity defines Astoria Design Studio and underpins every project we bring to life.
